Gabriel Munhoz was born in Porto Alegre, Brazil. He graduated in Social Communications - Advertising from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. He started photographing while in college. He spent five years assisting the photographer Celso Chittolina and Letícia Remião in Porto Alegre. In 2015, he opened his own company of social events photography.
The following year, he traveled to Mozambique, Africa, with the Brazilian NGO Reviva, covering their work, while they installed water purifiers in two villages and offered health services for locals. In 2018 he graduated from the Documentary and Photojournalism program at the International Center of Photography in New York City, where he is currently based. In the same year, his photo thesis on the Haitian community in NYC was part of the group exhibit "Signal Crossing" at Rita Hillman Gallery at ICP.
Munhoz has editorial works published on Revista Wow and Revista Ela from Brazil, as well as a photojournalistic essay on Portal R7. In 2020 he published his first photobook "Halsey Stoops" in his home country. The project was also shown on the online platform Fotodemic.
